For those of you that are unaware, I love to create. And, out of necessity, I have created a wonderful way to keep my keys from getting lost, and look fabulous too! I’m NOT one to always put my keys in the same place. I can’t do it, it’s just not possible. So, why not be able to find them when I need to? I have created a way to not only be able to quickly locate my lost keys when I need them, but to also look fabulous!

We have 2 beautiful, enegetic children ages 7 & 5. We have found that for my husband and I to train together, we are going to need to get creative. Today for our 3 mile run, Jeff decided to put both kids in the trek “ride” (Buggy-type jogging stroller). It was a tight squeeze for the two, totalling 80lbs. I think we may have overloaded the thing, but regardless, he pushed them the entire run. Tired or not, there was no way I was going to wimp out on this one! Especially after seeing multiple people we knew. And, I made it. YEAH!
Having my husband there has been imparitive. I have a hard time staying motivated alone. I find it too easy to create excuses for myself when I’m by myself. I am thankful for his support during this.
Three miles was supposed to be easy. It wasn’t. I’ve been doing 3 miles for months, why was it so hard? Maybe because I thought it was supposed to be easy, I took off too fast. Or, God’s looking down at me saying, “Show off. Don’t forget me.” I admit it, I forgot Him. I took off, thinking ‘I’ve got this. I can do this one, no problem.’ I whistled for the dog, and ran like a bat out of…well, you get the point. Isn’t this supposed to be easy? I know, it takes a lot of muscle work, but I looks like all you have to do is put one foot in front of the other and go. Why do I have to think so hard? Such as: How to breathe so that I’m not collapsed on the ground in a side cramp. How to keep relaxed to prevent injury. How to pace yourself so that you go as quickly as you can, but not too fast so that you burn out.
All this new information is making me scared that I’m not going to be ready in time to be able to do this for…WHAT WAS IT?!…26.2 MILES?!!! How am I going to have all this figured out by then? I think I need to go find my quiet place with my prayers, and have God give me the confidence, because clearly I doesn’t come from me.
Our 2 mile run went really well yesterday. Yes, it was raining, but for the first time in the last few months I felt great. A few months ago I was huffing and puffing the first few times I tried to pull off a 2 or 3 mile run. So, to be able to go out there, and talk the entire time was a great feeling. Also, at the end of the run, we kicked it into gear and booked it home. Who knew you could actually have fun running?!
Today, we have cross training for 30 minutes on the plan. Now, what to do? Wii Active? uhhhh…hmmm…yup, I guess that’s it. What do YOU do for cross training? I can’t bike for 30 minutes due to a tail bone injury. It’s 50 degrees outside, so swimming is OUT. Dance is over, so I can’t use that anymore. I’ll have to come up with something that doesn’t cost me more money. So, for now, my Wii is going to get my attention. But, more ideas would be great too.
Yesterday we had the kick off party for Team in Training. I was in tears with the stories of those struggling to beat blood cancers. It’s motivating, though to have those stories in my brain. I don’t think I would be out there training for a marathon if it was just for myself. It really helps having the inspiration of those that are trying to live a normal life, but can’t because of cancer. Those stories help me keep inspired. There was a photo of a jersey that said, “If you think a marathon is hard, try chemo.” What struggles do I really have? It’s a good to bring yourself into a new perspective once in a while. It helps keep yourself from getting too wrapped up in yourself.
But, my reality is much easier than those fighting cancer. And, my reality is pouring from the sky in a steady soaking rain. I remember last year, chuckling…all right, all right…down right laughing (I admit it)… at my husband when he was lacing up the shoes to go run in the rain. My pep talk was laced with “he he he…have fun SUCKER!” God was watching me those days. And you know what?! IT’S RAINING. And today is day 1 of our training. We only need to run 2 miles today, but I know that I deserve a lot worse than this.
Spent all morning printing, signing, folding, stuffing, and labeling. We’re close to ready for the kick-off party for Team in Training. It’s been a crazy morning, but exciting too. Getting our fund raising letters out makes this all real. I’m excited and ready to roll.
